The Nest…
On my walk one day just before sunset,
I noticed two black birds around a tiny twiggy nest,
I started to asses, putting the chosen tree to test.
With just a few branches,
That seemed to be black and leafless,
The tree was somewhat distinct but seemed lifeless.
Every day past the tree, I purposely walked,
And observed the nest growing,
The birdies were working hard and the days kept going.
In a couple of week’s time,
I noticed a long black thin tail protruding out of the nest
Boundless was my excitement, I whispered, “all the best!”
I knew there was a special happening,
The bird had laid its eggs, I was now perceiving,
It was incubating them, I had started imagining.
The next day it unexpectedly started snowing,
For two days in a row,
My anxiety sprang, not knowing what to do.
I prayed for the unborn, unseen chicks,
I had to go and it had to be quick,
For all was well, that’s all I wanted to see.
Out of the gloom, the sun came up,
And I was briskly walking
Towards my neighbour’s nest.
With fingers crossed,
I reached my feathered friend’s neighbourhood,
The snow had melted, the nest safely dwelled.
My eyes were moist,
When suddenly the new born chicks,
Started Fluttering and loudly they voiced.
On giving a second glance I could surprisingly see,
Small leaves budding from the lifeless branches,
I was wrong, I doubted the bird’s capability.
As a human, I was incapable to foresee,
Nature had its own ways to assure me,
I rejoiced, “My birds had chosen the right tree.”
